Lazy Bones, Young Hearts

MindTree Consulting in its endeavor to keep all the minds as young as possible comes up with many different set of activities. One such initiative was Panache. It is a Cricket tournament within MindTree, where many teams are pitted against each other, and for everyone to enjoy and have the best possible fun. This also helps is bonding with the team members and know more about everyone’s strengths and weaknesses.

As with all divisions of MindTree, LANSA too came out with a cricket team of its own. Whilst the team was about to be formed a lot of people jumped in to join the team. Many felt they had ample time to “take off” and have some fun. Finally a list of 21 was listed and the team was formed, a team which had a healthy mix of youth and experience and ably guided by a senior pro who has seen it all and done it before.

There were some practice sessions and some mock matches. It was here that we could differentiate between the lazy and young ones. Most of the new Minds, very young by age, could see the effect of having a lazy body. The bones were so slow and lazy that most of the things which were supposed to be a cake walk turned out to be very cumbersome business. The spirit and zest were up to the mark, however the lazy bones that we were, ultimately were outshone by the young hearts.

These young hearts were very small in numbers. Raju, Satish and Zameer (If I can group them), were these young hearts. Being on the wrong side of the age, to compete with kids was a tremendous act. It’s an act of courage as many bones needed some stretching. Contrastingly, the youngsters that we were could neither match to either their skills or their hearts.

In every competitive environment, it was proved that the young hearts can win. It was shown that laziness is a hindrance to all acts. We, the Campus Minds, straight out of college were supposed to have played a greater part. As it turned out that the sabbatical of a short duration was enough to keep these lazy bones of ours at bay. As Raju pointed out aptly, it was just that we had to perform to our potential and we would be victorious. This was not the case as we were too lazy to get our act together.

The young hearts were the ones with experience. They showed determination; grit, patience and most importantly were totally committed to the task. These were the highlights that we all are supposed to learn. One could see these young hearts and the experienced brains working in sync and showing great managing skills. The way every other player in the team was nurtured was there to be seen for all. Wisely, they kept the best for the occasion.

Satish, showed that all we require is to be at ease. He ensured that it happens by livening up the spirits every now and then. The spirits were maintained high. What was supposed to be done by all was almost handled single handedly. The prowesses were on display on every available opportunity. This was obliviously done to have some fun, and thus was taken in right spirits through out.

Zameer, the captain, what can one say. This silent performer can be attributed with not just skills but as well with some great fitness. Most of us did envy the fitness as it was not an easy task. His words can be heard only when required. There was a thrust that things uttered were the ones which were meant a great deal.

The elders, the experienced and the young hearts had made a team consisting of lazy bones, ready for the match day. The timely advice provided by them was very valuable. The most emphasized point was, enjoy one selves when on field. We were made conscious that we are playing to have some fun and winning would just be a bonus.

With these thoughts in mind, the match was eagerly approached. The end result was, match was lost and yet the team was happy that we had enjoyed to the core. The match was closely fought and the score line would show a great team effort. What would go unnoticed is the fact that the platform for an exciting finish was laid by the young hearts. It was the grit of the senior pros, Raju and Satish which kept the team well within the sights of the match.

There was this gentleman who was there and thereabouts through out, encouraging the team to perform well. Again the young heart that he has is mention worthy. H.P, as he is called fondly by one and all, for all his experience stood outside the filed and provided some valuable tips and guidelines. The “X” factor that he bestowed upon us was really praise worthy. Thank you Sir.

The point of emphasis is that being young at heart is always more important than any other thing. These young hearts bore the brunt of their bodies and were steady enough to encourage others and improve the overall output. The energy levels showed by all of them were commendable and spurred the rest to give in the best. This is a small token of appreciation for the efforts that you guys have put in.

The people who have witnessed the match and practice would surely second this opinion. Though the lazy bones did let us down, we still take pride in the fact that we were in the company of such hearts which gave us a lot to learn and yearn about. The young hearts over took the lazy bones and came out victorious though there was no battle fought.

Hats Off!!!!!!
